I loved Graceling. I finished it in one sitting and immediately began recommending it to friends and family. Graceling is Kristin Cashore's first novel. Her second novel, Fire, is a prequel to Graceling.

For this page I chose to focus on King Leck's scheming nature because I found the story of his rise to power and control of Monsea interesting.

*spoiler*

King Leck was Graced, but clever enough to feign an injury and wear an eyepatch so that his Grace was a secret. He had the ability to manipulate truth in the minds of not only the people around him, but all the people they came in contact with and the people they came in contact with, etc. He used that power to gain the favor of the king and queen and convince them to name him as heir. Once king, he used that power to control his image so that he could commit his evil acts while maintaining a good reputation.
